Welcome

I really hope you take a few minutes to explore our website and are tempted to pack your bags and come and stay for a while.

I get to travel quite a lot these days and it has given me new perspective on just how special Winder Hall and the Lake District fells really are. I love the final bit of my journey home, driving down the A66 from Penrith, seeing the mountains getting bigger and closer.

I love skirting the hustle and bustle of Keswick, snaking my way through and over the mountain forest of Whinlatter, and I really love that final drop down into the lush green valley of Lorton, finally arriving to the old stone pile which is Winder.

Winder oozes history and the slow, safe passage of time, but what you feel is a human warmth as she watches over and protects the people that have lived here over hundreds of years.

Certainly she is one of the oldest and historic houses in Cumbria (the Winder family were resident in this corner of the Lake District for 300 years from the 14th century)… but what matters now is how we look after you…

It’s the character of the house that has defined our style of hospitality – it’s special; there is real integrity, honesty and warmth in the way our team looks after guests here. It shows in the welcome, our home-made food and our attention to detail. It is not stuffy or formal. It really is a unique experience.

I love coming home from my travels and I know the team are looking forward to welcoming you to your new home in the Lake District.

See you soon at the best little hotel and restaurant in the Lake District!
